Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need 3-phase?

Typical triggers are multiple aircond units, heavy machinery, 11 kW or 22 kW EV charging, solar above a small size or a main breaker that trips under normal use. A load calculation gives a firm answer. Our single vs 3-phase guide explains more.

How long does it take to get a 3 phase meter from TNB?

It depends on the TNB review and scheduling, and on whether local infrastructure can support it. We prepare the application properly and follow up, but we cannot promise TNB dates.

Will my electricity bill go up with 3-phase?

The tariff is based on consumption, not on the number of phases, though some tariffs and deposits differ for commercial supply. 3-phase gives capacity; it does not by itself raise usage.

Do all my appliances need rewiring for 3-phase?

No. Single-phase appliances run on one phase of a 3-phase supply. The DB is rewired so loads are spread across the three phases, and only large equipment needs three-phase connection.

Can you upgrade a shop lot or terrace house?

Usually, subject to what TNB can supply at that location. We check the existing service cable and DB, and tell you if infrastructure will limit the upgrade.
