3-phase power upgrades & distribution board work

We assess your load, apply to TNB where a change of supply is needed, and install or enlarge the distribution board, sub-mains and machine circuits — sized to real load calculations, tested and handed over.

Scope

What we handle

Assessment & design

Before anything is ordered

  • Load calculation & maximum demand assessment
  • Single-line diagram (SLD)
  • Whether an upgrade is actually needed
  • TNB supply application when moving to 3-phase

Distribution boards

New, enlarged or replaced

  • New & enlarged DB, main switchboard (MSB)
  • MCB, RCCB, RCBO & surge protection (SPD)
  • Phase balancing across the board
  • Clear circuit labelling & schedule

Sub-mains & circuits

Sized to the connected load

  • Armoured sub-mains & rising mains
  • Dedicated machine & compressor circuits
  • Chiller & HVAC circuits
  • Sub-metering for rental units

How we work

From load calculation to a balanced board.

STEP 1

Site visit & load calculation

We measure the connected load, review future equipment, and confirm whether it’s a DB job or a full supply upgrade.

STEP 2

Recommendation & quote

An itemised quote — and we only recommend a supply upgrade if the numbers require it.

STEP 3

TNB application

If you’re moving to three phase, we prepare the certificate, SLD and forms and liaise with TNB.

STEP 4

DB & sub-main installation

Boards, sub-mains and machine circuits installed to MS IEC 60364, prepared alongside the existing supply.

STEP 5

Test, phase-balance & hand over

Full test sequence, phase currents balanced, labelled board and test results.

Downtime

Changing over without stopping the line

Where we can, the new board is built and wired next to the old one and the changeover happens in a short window — usually outside production hours — so the factory keeps running while the work is done.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need to upgrade to 3-phase?
Not always. If your equipment is single-phase and your load is comfortably within the approved maximum demand, staying single-phase is fine. We do a load calculation first and only recommend an upgrade when the connected load, or a specific 3-phase machine, requires it.
How much does a 3-phase upgrade cost?
It depends on the new maximum demand, the distance from the incoming supply, the DB and sub-main sizes, and whether TNB needs to do external work such as a new cable or transformer. We give an itemised quote after the load calculation and site visit.
Do you handle the TNB side as well?
Yes. Moving from single to three phase needs a supply application — we prepare the wiring certificate, single-line diagram and forms, and liaise with TNB. See our TNB supply application service.
Can you upgrade the DB without changing the supply?
Often yes. A fuller or better-protected board, more ways, RCBOs, or a new sub-main can be done on the existing single-phase supply if the load allows.
Will the factory have to shut down during the work?
We plan the changeover to minimise downtime — preparing the new board alongside the old one and switching over in a short window, usually outside production hours.
